Sam and Charles Wyly, famed billionaire donors to a wide range of conservative causes including the Swift Boat camapaign (and Texas buddies of GW Bush) were charged by the SEC with large scale securities fraud that net them up to 550 million dollars in undisclosed gains.

…both are Bush Pioneers.

In 2000, Sam Wyly contributed $2.5 million to a group called “Republicans for Clean Air”, which ran ads praising George W. Bush’s environmental record and criticizing that of John McCain. The ads ran in New York, Ohio, and California in advance of early March primaries, at a time when Bush and McCain were locked in a tight struggle for the Republican presidential nomination. It initially was unclear who was behind the group or who paid for the ads until Wyly stepped forward to take the credit.

In 2004, Wyly also donated $20,000 to the Swift Boat campaign that raised questions about Sen. John Kerry’s military record in Vietnam, helping scuttle Kerry’s challenge to Bush. Wyly said he is neither leaning toward McCain nor Democrat Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential campaign, and won’t get involved in the race….

Waiting for the Sunday Boat

July 29, 2010

Florida circa 1902.

…Pic of great feelings Submitted by Anonymous Tipster on Mon, 07/26/2010 - 9:56pm.
I came to my office this morning with a bad case of the Monday blues. I did not want to start work so I went to this site and when I saw this pic I lost my blues and lit up feeling like I’m ready for the world.
Now, this evening I am home and was back to feeling like crap because of some nasty dealings from my bank. So I went to this pic and now once again I feel GREAT.
Thanks for this most wonderful picture. I hope the people pictured had lives that were long and full of the happiness I am sure they gave to many….

A boat carrying passengers and goods has capsized on a river in the Democratic Republic of Congo killing about 140 people, officials say.

…A boat carrying passengers and goods has capsized on a river in the Democratic Republic of Congo killing about 140 people, officials say.
The accident happened on the Kasai river - a tributary of the Congo River - in the western province of Bandundu.
Police told Reuters news agency the boat had been overloaded.
After decades of conflict DR Congo has few roads or rail links, leading many people to travel on often overloaded boats.
Last November at least 73 people died when a boat sank on a lake, also in Bandundu province.
The latest accident occurred on Wednesday.
The boat was carrying passengers and goods from Mushie, about 30km (20 miles) from Bandundu, the chief town in the province, AFP news agency reports.
“The boat was badly overloaded and it didn’t make the rough waters,” provincial police official Jolly Limengo told Reuters news agency….

The Hollywood Reporter: What has this roller-coaster year been like?

Isaiah Mustafa: It’s a dream come true. It was a couple of lucky occurrences that had to happen for me to get the commercial. I missed the first audition but made the second one they scheduled because they hadn’t found anyone. They said they were going to book me, but I didn’t get the call. I said “Forget it” and put it out of my head. Then they called after Christmas. I think about it all, and it wows me.

THR: What can you share about your role in “Horrible Bosses”?

Mustafa: It’s a smaller role, but who wouldn’t want to be in one of these funny, irreverent comedies? The cast is great. I’m playing a cop because I play these authoritative characters well. I don’t know exactly who I’m in the scene with — maybe Jennifer Aniston!

THR: You also landed a talent agreement last month with NBC. What does…

U.S. scrambles to get emergency teams to new Gulf oil leak

July 28, 2010

The U.S. Coast Guard dispatched emergency teams Tuesday after a boat crashed into an oil well off the coast of New Orleans, reportedly sending crude spewing some 20 feet into the air.

…NEW ORLEANS — The U.S. Coast Guard dispatched emergency teams Tuesday after a boat crashed into an oil well off the coast of New Orleans, spilling crude into the Gulf of Mexico.
The well, located about 65 miles south of New Orleans, was ruptured when it was struck by a dredge barge called Captain Buford pulled by a tug, Pere Ana C.
Reports of a giant fountain of oil were downplayed by U.S. authorities who said only a light sheen was visible on the surface, some six feet above the damaged wellhead.
The incident, which is unrelated to the massive gusher recently capped by BP deep down on the seabed, occurred in a nearby part of the Gulf of Mexico. Cleanup vessels were redeployed to surround it with 6,000 feet of boom.
“There is some vapor emanating and we have an overhead picture that shows probably a combination of gas and water vapor and so forth coming to the surface plus a light sheen,” said U.S. spill chief Thad Allen. “One of the positive things I suppose about having this response going on is we have a…
